Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, on Thursday, dissolved his cabinet amidst laughs, jesting and tears from former coucil members.
Gatekeepers News reports that the former Commissioners were directed to hand over to their Permanent Secretaries on Friday.
Zulum made the dissolution announcement shortly after the valedictory session held at the Council Chambers of Government House, Maiduguri.
Those affected in the cabinet dissolution include all Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants.
Others are Caretaker Local Government Chairmen, Chairmen/members of Boards, parastatals and agencies.
However, according to the governor, the Sectretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Jidda Shuwa, Borno State Civil Service Commission, Borno State Local Government Service Commission , Borno State House of Assembly Service Commission, Borno State Judiciary Service Commission , Borno State Independent Electoral Commission, Borno Teaching Service Board Commission and Borno Universal Basic Education Board are all exempted.
It all started with outpour of ecomiums on Governor Zulum from the Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, the Secretary to the State Government, Former and incumbent Head of the State Civil Service down to the former Commissioners, all applauded the governor for his dynamic leadership style and giving many of them the opportunity to serve in his cabinet.
It was laugh, laugh and laughs when the fomer cabinet members shared good memories of their years of service to the people of Borno State under the Prof. Zulum first term administration. They all said that their different accomplishments in their various ministries and agencies wouldn’t have been possible without the active support of the governor.
But the fomer Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources and now a Member-Elect of the Federal House of Representatives Engr. Bukar Talba who allowed his emotions to get the best of him as he could not hold back his tears while appreciating governor for giving him the opportunity to serve his state.
” I never thought of becoming a Commissioner let alone a Member – Elect of the Federal House of Representatives,” Engr. Talba said while tears roll down his cheeks forcing him to halt his valedictory speech.
Governor Zulum appreciated all the former cabinet members and assured them of his continued support.
“I assure you that whether as a Commissioner or not, I will Insha Allah continue to be with you. Whether in adversity or prosperity, I will be with you and will continue to support you,” Prof Zulum said.
