Financial Breach: Premier League Investigates Chelsea Under Abramovich Era

Premier League are currently investigating Chelsea FC for potential financial rule breaches during Roman Abramovich’s ownership of the club.

Gatekeepers News reports that the new owners of Chelsea, US-led consortium reported the club to UEFA and the Premier League after their takeover last summer.

At present, Chelsea has not been charged with anything by the Premier League.

If found guilty of rule breaches, sanctions could include a fine or a points deduction.

On 28 July, UEFA announced they had fined Chelsea €10m (£8.6m) for “submitting incomplete financial information” between 2012 and 2019.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are yet to comment on the latest development.

Gatekeepers News reports that Abramovich’s 19-year tenure as Chelsea owner came to an end in May 2022.

Some months ago, the UK government sanctioned Abramovich following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – with Downing Street saying he had proven links to President Vladimir Putin.

In November 2022, a group majority-funded by Clearlake Capital, a Californian investment firm, which is spearheaded by the LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly, bought Chelsea in a £4.25bn deal from Abramovich.
