FRSC Debunks Claims Of Seeking Permission To Bear Arms

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disowned claims that the commission is considering the possibility of its personnel carrying firearms to enhance their security in light of increasing insecurity across the nation.

 

Gatekeepers News reports that the Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, had earlier stated that the commission is seeking the permission of the Federal Government to bear arms.

This call was made during the inauguration of 1,762 corps personnel who had recently completed a four-month introductory course at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) in Kontagora, Niger State,

Biu, represented by Deputy Corps Marshal Shehu Zaki, highlighted that granting FRSC personnel the authority to bear arms would offer better protection, especially as they often face attacks from some road users or suspected criminals who exploit the prevailing security challenges.

However, in a statement by Bisi Kazeem, Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer,on the FRSC official X account on Sunday, the Corps Marshal and the management team disowned such claims.

“The attention of the FRSC has just been drawn to a report that the Corps Marshal is seeking the permission of the Federal Government for the personnel of the Corps to bear arms.

“The said eronous statement credited to the representative of the Corps Marshal at the Passing Out Parade of Cadets at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) . Kotangora, Niger State , does not reflect the current position of the Corps Marshal and the management team.

“Members of the public should therefore take note.”
