A 67-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Clement, has been apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja.
Gatekeepers News reports that the commission made this known in a statement signed by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, shared on their Facebook page on Sunday.
Clement was arrested for ingesting 100 wraps of cocaine, which he claimed to have done to raise sufficient funds for a new marriage and a fresh start in life after spending 30 years abroad.
Chukwuemeka was detained on Tuesday, October 3rd during the screening process of passengers arriving on Ethiopian Airlines flight 951 from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He was subjected to a body scan that revealed multiple pellets in his stomach. Under observation, he excreted a total of 100 wraps of cocaine, weighing 2.195 kilograms, in four separate instances.
In his statement, Chukwuemeka disclosed that he had lived in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Thailand for three decades. He had been previously married but lost his wife without having any children.
Consequently, he resorted to drug trafficking as a means to gather enough money to get married again and begin a fresh chapter in his life.
