Senate Confirms Zaccheus Adedeji As FIRS Chair

Senate has confirmed Zaccheus Adedeji as the substantive chair of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Gatekeepers News reports that the Senate confirmed Adedeji on Tuesday after he was screened in the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.

In September, President Bola Tinubu appointed Adedeji who was his special adviser on Revenue, as the acting chairman of FIRS after directing Muhammad Nami to proceed on a three-month pre-retirement leave.

During his screening at the red chamber, Adedeji promised that most of the leakages would be halted, adding that the core problem in the country is proper data.

He stressed that developing data upon which decisions will be made is fundamental.

It added that this will enable sufficient info on the exact number of vessels of crude brought into the county and the concomitant tax. The data would be used to identify those in affluence who pay insufficient tax, the FIRS boss added.

Adedeji further vowed to centralise the identification system in Nigeria and advance the nation’s data mining capacity.
