Italian Football Icon Giorgio Chiellini Announces Retirement

Giorgio Chiellini, the revered Italian footballer, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39.

Gatekeepers News reports that the decision comes after Chiellini’s LA FC team experienced a defeat in the 2022 MLS Cup final over the weekend.

Chiellini’s illustrious career spanned over two decades, featuring iconic moments such as winning nine Serie A titles with Juventus and securing Euro 2020 glory with the Italian national team.

Having made over 700 appearances throughout his career, Chiellini spent 17 seasons with Juventus making 561 appearances before joining MLS side LA FC in 2022.

On his decision to retire, Chiellini said it was time to “start new chapters” in his life after an “intense journey” spanning over two decades. Juventus paid tribute to their former captain, labelling him a “superhero”, who struck fear into the hearts of opponents when he stepped onto the pitch.

The legendary defender, known for his commanding presence and passion, leaves behind a lasting legacy in Italian football.
