Following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the acting governor of Ondo State, is set to be sworn in as the substantive governor today.
Gatekeepers News reports that a reliable source at the state House of Assembly confirmed that Aiyedatiwa would be sworn in by 4 p.m. today barring any last minute change in plan.
Aiyedatiwa, who was in his hometown for the Christmas break when the news of the governor’s death broke, will soon arrive at the state capital, Akure, for the swearing in.
“It’s true that the acting governor would be sworn in today by 4 p.m. He is presently out of the state. As soon as he’s back, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olusegun Odusola, will swear him in as the governor.” the source said.
The announcement of Akeredolu’s death was made by the state Information and Orientation Commissioner, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju on Wednesday, who described him as an extraordinary leader.
The family and the Ondo State Government express gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support during the governor’s illness and mention that further details about funeral arrangements will be released.
Aiyedatiwa was the deputy governor until Wednesday, December 13 when power was formally transferred to him after Akeredolu went on another medical vacation.
Akeredolu died on Wednesday (today) at 67.
