Dropping IGP’s Name For Corrupt Practices Is Criminal – IGP Warns Officers

Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has condemned the use of his name for corrupt practices and extortion within the Nigeria Police Force.

Gatekeepers News reports that the IGP stated this in a statement signed by the force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday.

In a bid to uphold integrity and professionalism, the IGP issued a stern warning to all officers, stating that such actions tarnish the reputation of the force and erode public trust.

The IGP emphasised that any officer caught leveraging his name for fraudulent activities will face severe disciplinary measures. He urged officers to uphold transparency and professionalism, highlighting the importance of maintaining the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.

IGP Egbetokun also called on the public to report any attempts to exploit his name for fraudulent activities or extortion, especially in the investigation of cases. He stressed the role of citizens in collaborating with the police to maintain high standards of conduct and eliminate corruption.

Assuring the public of the Force’s commitment to rooting out misconduct, the IGP urged Nigerians to report any incidents of extortion or fraudulent activity. He emphasized the need for detailed information to facilitate thorough investigations and ensure severe sanctions for erring officers.
