In a bid to assist the less privileged and reduce the current economic hardship of his constituents, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno on Sunday donated 110 HIJET mini-pick-up vehicles to 110 beneficiaries including a blind man, Alhaji Bunu Fannami.
Gatekeepers News reports that the physically challenged Fannami and other beneficiaries were full of gratitude to Senator Monguno who represents Borno North Senatorial District, which comprises 10 Local Government Areas.
Borno North Senatorial District is the worst-hit district since the commencement of the decade-long Boko insurgency- this is where Fanami hails from and he believes the new vehicle will reduce to a significant level his current economic hardship.
Already, Bunu disclosed that he will employ the services of a commercial driver and proceeds from the daily work will be channelled to sponsor the education of four of his six children.
“I’m so grateful to Allah and my Senator for this wonderful gesture. This will in no small measure boost my economic status. I have six children and two wives; their lives will be positively impacted.
Fannami added that “the greater percentage of my income will now be channelled to sponsoring the education of four of my children who are currently in school.”
Governor Babagana Zulum who commissioned the vehicles at an occasion held at the Borno Government House and handed over keys of the vehicle to Fannami and some beneficiaries admonished them to make good use of the opportunity provided them by Senator Monguno’s intervention.
Zulum commended Senator Monguno for the donation and his continuous support to his constituents through the provision of agricultural inputs, buses to the newly established Federal Polytechnic Monguno, and laptops which have enhanced digital literacy amongst students of Northern Borno.
According to the Governor, other intervention projects by Senator Monguno include the provision of ” irrigation pumps, construction of classroom blocks and supply of teaching materials, cash donations, drilling of boreholes, training and retraining of youths/women in skills acquisitions amongst others which he noted, have complemented efforts of his administration in Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups across the

“I want to commend Senator MT Monguno for his people-oriented projects to the people of his constituency. Since when he (The Senator) was a member of the House of Representatives, he has positively impacted the lives of his people, and I reiterate that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, my humble self and the people of Northern Borno are proud of MT Monguno who have since keyed into the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the Federal Government.
“Let me use this opportunity to call upon other lawmakers to emulate MT Monguno’s good gestures, as it will serve as palliatives directly or indirectly to his constituents,” Zulum said.
Senator Monguno who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters at the Senate, commended Governor Zulum, security agencies and all stakeholders who are working on restoring peace that led to the resettlement of most of the displaced persons from the zone back to their ancestral homes with dignity.
He pledged that he would continue to give his maximum support in alleviating the economic challenges his people face as peace is gradually returned to his constituency.
