Nigerian billionaire and founder of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has named the road leading to his oil refinery after Herbert Wigwe, as a way to immortalise the late business tycoon.
Gatekeepers News reports that Wigwe who was the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, a Nigerian financial institution.
On February 10, 2024, Wigwe died in a chopper crash in the United States alongside his wife and son, Chizoba and Chizi. The former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Abimbola Ogunbanjo was also aboard the ill-fated aircraft.
At the tribute by professionals on Monday, Dangote broke down in tears while paying homage to Wigwe.
The African richest man said, “To immortalise my beloved friend, my brother, and my mentee, I have actually decided to name a major refinery and petrochemical road, out of the 120 kilometres, the biggest road will now be named ‘Herbert Wigwe.”
Meanwhile, before his death, Wigwe was also the founder of Wigwe University.
He was the deputy managing director at Access Bank from 2002 to 2014 when he became the group managing director and CEO.
Wigwe served as the chairman of Access Bank (Ghana), Access Investment & Securities Limited, Central Securities and Clearing System (CSCS) and presently as chairman of Access Bank (UK) Limited and Unified Payments Services Limited.
