Abure Re-elected As LP National Chairman Despite NLC’s Opposition

Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, has been re-elected for a second term despite opposition from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Gatekeepers News reports that the announcement was made by the Chairman of the National Convention, Ikechukwu Emetu, during the party’s national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Abure has been facing criticism from the NLC leadership led by Joe Ajaero, who called for his resignation and the immediate constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organize a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.

The LP’s leadership, however, maintained that it is not answerable to the congress.

Earlier this year, workers who were not allowed access into the party office protested against Abure, accusing him of financial impropriety.

The leadership of rival camps in the party both faulted the picking of the LP by the NLC, though they disagree on the party’s leadership.
