On Saturday, the Rivers State House of Assembly made a statement threatening to impeach the State Governor, Sim Fubara.
Gatekeepers News reports that the House declared that it will impeach Fubara if it becomes necessary to uphold the Constitution.
The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, stated this during a media briefing held in Port Harcourt, the state capital. The Speaker was accompanied by 26 of his colleagues.
Furthermore, 27 lawmakers who are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, criticized the former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council led by Dr Abiye Sekibo, over its recent attack on Wike.
In 2023, the lawmakers had previously threatened to impeach the Governor following his face-off with last December, 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly withdrew their impeachment notice against Fubara.
The lawmakers stated that their decision was made out of respect for President Bola Tinubu, who had convened a reconciliation meeting between the warring parties. President Tinubu had successfully brokered a peace deal between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.
