Iran Sets June 28 For Presidential Election Amid Political Tensions

Iranian Interior Ministry announced that the country’s next presidential election will take place on June 28, 2024.

Gatekeepers News reports that this development comes at a time of heightened political tensions and uncertainty following the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi.

Candidates will have a five-day window, from May 30 to June 3, to register for the election. The campaign season will then run from June 12 to June 27, culminating in the vote on June 28.

The election is widely seen as a crucial moment for Iran’s future, with many hoping for a new leader who can address the country’s economic and political challenges.

The previous presidential election in 2021 saw Ebrahim Raisi win with 62% of the votes, but his term was marked by controversy and division.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions from political factions and citizens, with some expressing optimism for change and others warning of potential unrest. The election will be closely watched by regional and global powers, given Iran’s significant influence in the Middle East.
