Soyinka Reconsiders US Residency After Trump's Historic Conviction
Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has stated that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is “unfit” to lead Nigeria due to his alleged encouragement of vitriol from his supporters, known as ‘Obidients’.

Gatekeepers News reports that in an interview, Soyinka expressed hope that Obi will not run in the 2027 election, citing his conduct as proof of his unfitness to lead.

Soyinka alleged that Obi has control over his followers and has encouraged their divisive actions, which he believes will ultimately backfire.

He criticized dishonest political leaders for promoting such behaviour, stating that they would face consequences when their supporters turn on them.

The renowned novelist and activist expressed disappointment in Obi’s handling of the situation, particularly his failure to address the manufactured facts and insults spread by his supporters.

Soyinka emphasized the importance of education and leadership in promoting unity and condemned Obi’s actions as a sad phenomenon for Nigeria’s multi-textured society.

His comments come as a stark warning to political leaders who encourage divisive behavior and highlights the need for responsible leadership in promoting national unity.
