Fuel Tanker Explodes On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Over 60 Killed As Petrol Tanker Explodes
A petrol-laden tanker exploded on Saturday morning at the Ibafo/Aseese axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, causing a gridlock on the road.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred around 7 am and disrupted vehicular movement, leading to a traffic jam on some major routes in Lagos.

According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), no casualties were recorded from the explosion.

Firefighters were quickly deployed to the scene, and personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) redirected traffic to ease the congestion.

In a statement, Akinbiyi said, “Fire update at Ibafo: As of 0830 hrs, the fire has finally been put to rest. Traffic is gradually moving. Operatives are on the ground to ease the traffic. I will provide additional updates later.”

Last month, a gas tanker explosion on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway claimed one life and injured two others.
