Ribadu Denies Facilitating Bayero’s Return To Kano

National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu has denied facilitating the return of the dethroned Emir, Aminu Bayero to Kano state.

Gatekeepers News reports that Bayero returned to Kano state on Saturday morning and then moved into a palace in Nassarawa LGA of the state.

The Governor of Kano state, Abba Yusuf was not content with his return and ordered Bayero’s arrest immediately after he arrived and was welcomed back in Kano by his supporters.

Aminu Gwarzo, Kano Deputy Governor of Kano subsequently blamed the national security adviser for allegedly facilitating the return of Bayero to the palace by providing two private jets tonconvey him back to the state.

Gwarzo said “The national security adviser gave two jets to bring the dethroned emir to Kano and to bring him to the place. We have not understood their intention.”

Nuhu Ribadu however, through a statement released by the spokesperson for the NSA office, Zahari Mijinyawa said the claim is not true.

He said “I read the comments on social media, it is untrue. The NSA did not provide air transport to anyone to Kano.”

“Political actors should desist from misinforming the public as law enforcement officials in the state strive to maintain peace and order.”

On Thursday, the Kano House of Assembly repealed the 2019 law used to oust Sanusi and balkanize the emirate into five jurisdictions.
The new emirate law stipulated the sack of all the emirs in the jurisdictions and a restoration of the old order.
Only one Emir will now be overseeing all of Kano.
Yusuf had given the sacked monarchs 48 hours to vacate their palaces.
The emirs of Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya have complied with the directive.

Sanusi who was deposed in 2020 after a rift with Abdullahi Ganduje, the then Governor of Kano state on Friday replaced Bayero as emir.

Sanusi’s reinstatement came after the state’s house of assembly repealed the law that led to Sanusi’s dethronement and division of the Emirate into five jurisdictions.

The new Emirate law states that all emirs in the affected areas be removed and the previous order is restored.

The sacked emirs of the state were given 48 hours to vacate their respective palaces by the Governor of the state. However, only the emirs of Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya adhered to the Governor’s command.
