People With Disabilities Seek More Representation In Government

Muslim Association of Visually Impaired of Nigeria (MAVIN) on Thursday requested to be given more positions in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.

Gatekeepers News reports that the association made the request through its congratulatory message to the President on his one-year anniversary in office.

The president of the Association, AbdulWasi’ Salaudeen said: “Dear Mr President, as you sit back to reflect on your first year in office, we wish to take advantage of this medium to add our thoughts to your stream of reflections and recalibrations, as bonafide citizens of Nigeria.”

“Right from your first day in office, your government has embarked on significant socioeconomic policies that have since affected the lives of millions of Nigerians in different ways.”

“There is no doubting the fact that governance is an arduous as well as a sensitive task that requires decisive and focused decision making, however, there is always the need to spend time to do a reappraisal of every decision in the collective interest of the governed, and particularly the common man and the less privileged, whose well-being depends largely on the outcome of every decision taken by the political elites.”

“Representing the over 35 million population of Nigerians living with disabilities, we acknowledge the giant strides taken so far by your administration towards the realisation of the goals of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibition) Act 2018.”
