Former President Donald Trump has announced Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his vice presidential running mate for the upcoming election.

Gatekeepers News reports that Trump made the announcement on social media, praising Vance’s “tremendous talents” and citing his honorable service in the Marine Corps, academic achievements, and best-selling book “Hillbilly Elegy”.

Vance, 39, is a first-term senator and political newcomer, but has been a vocal ally of Trump’s in recent years. Despite initially criticising Trump, Vance has since changed his stance and defended the former president during his criminal trial.

In a campaign video released by the Trump campaign, Vance is seen appearing alongside Trump on the campaign trail and on TV. The video concludes with the Trump-Vance campaign logo.

Vance’s selection marks a departure from Trump’s previous VP pick, Mike Pence.

When asked about his interest in the vice presidency, Vance said, “In 18 months … we’ve done a lot of good work for our constituents.”

He also expressed his willingness to take a different approach to certifying elections, stating that he would have refused to certify the 2020 election results if he had been in Pence’s position.

Trump’s announcement has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising Vance’s unique background and others questioning his lack of experience.
