Fresh protests have swept across Kenya, with demonstrators demanding President William Ruto’s resignation.

Gatekeepers News reports that Police responded with teargas in Nairobi’s central business district, while protests in Mombasa remained largely peaceful.

However, in Karatina, residents lit bonfires and demanded accountability for recent protest-related deaths.

The protests follow the discovery of six mutilated female bodies, which has sparked outrage and accusations of police brutality.

Human rights groups have also alleged security forces abducted Kenyans during last month’s anti-tax protests.

President Ruto has promised accountability for the killings and has taken measures such as cutting budgets, withdrawing controversial legislation, and firing his cabinet. However, protesters insist that these actions are insufficient and that Ruto must step down.

In Nakuru, three people, including a journalist, were shot during protests. Witnesses claim the police shot the journalist, Wanjeri wa Kariuki, despite her clearly displaying her press card and jacket. One person was reported killed, according to Reuters.

Chants of “Ruto must go” echoed through the streets, as Kenyans demanded change.
