Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election of Douye Diri as the Governor of Bayelsa State, dismissing the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Timipre Sylva.

Gatekeepers News reports that the three-member panel ruled that the appeal lacked merit, affirming the earlier decision of the lower tribunal that the petitioners failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.

Diri, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared the winner of the November 13, 2023, off-cycle election, receiving 175,196 votes to defeat Sylva and other candidates.

Sylva and the APC alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wrongly excluded results from three Local Government Areas, which they claimed were their strongholds.

However, the tribunal held that the petitioners failed to provide credible evidence to support their allegations and dismissed the petition.
