Lagos State Government has clarified that it has not reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation and will not impose movement restrictions by the end of July.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, dismissed rumors circulating online, stating that residents can go about their daily activities without restrictions.

Wahab explained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s recent announcement was actually about introducing a weekly community-based sensitisation and awareness exercise, where state officials will join residents in cleaning their environments voluntarily.

The commissioner emphasised that the Governor did not announce plans to restart monthly sanitation exercises or movement restrictions.

“The governor said the state government officials will lead from the front every week by going round to join residents in cleaning their environment in a voluntary manner while preaching the message.

“At no time did the governor make a pronouncement that the monthly exercise and restriction would start in July or any other month for now.”

Sanwo-Olu also ordered a crackdown on vandals who destroy government properties and remove manholes in strategic locations.

The government encourages residents to adopt a culture of cleanliness and not wait for official declarations to maintain their surroundings.
