Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has crashed out of the 2024 Paris Olympics after a 88-74 quarter-final loss to the United States at the Bercy Arena in Paris.
Gatekeepers News reports that despite a historic run that saw them defeat Australia and Canada, the team couldn’t overcome the dominant Americans.
D’Tigress had made history by qualifying for their first-ever Olympic quarter-final and recording their first Olympic win in 20 years. However, the US team proved too strong, taking a 26-17 lead in the first quarter and extending it to 52-33 by halftime. Nigeria fought hard but couldn’t close the gap, ultimately losing by 14 points.
Ezinne Kalu was D’Tigress’ standout player throughout the tournament, inspiring her teammates with her aggression and determination. Captain Amy Okonkwo, Promise Amukamara, and Musa Marjanatu also had impressive performances.
