Immigration To Probe Woman Who Tore Husband’s Passport At Airport

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a formal investigation into destruction of Nigerian passport at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

Gatekeepers News reports that a video showing a female traveller destroying her husband’s passport at the airport, on Saturday, went viral on social media.

Torn pieces of the passport could be seen on the floor.

When someone confronted the woman about her action, she replied in Pidgin, “I tore it, is it yours?”

Moments later, she yells at her husband: “If you want to sleep there, you sleep there.”

She then walked away with her son and daughter as her husband stood somber with a baby in a stroller.

A subsequent video showed the woman explaining her actions, insisting that she did nothing wrong as she had been oppressed by her husband for a while.

She asked that people hear her side of the story before jumping to conclusions.

NIS said, “The individual has been identified and invited for further investigation.”

“If the allegations are substantiated, her actions would have constituted a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.”

The NIS reiterates that it remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding provisions of Immigration Act in the interest of national security.
