Four people have died in a boat mishap that occurred at Dundaye community in Wamakko Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.
Gatekeepers News reports that Head of Sokoto Field Operation Office of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Sokoto.
Kafindangi revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday evening.
He noted that the dead bodies were recovered by a combined rescue team from NEMA, Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services and State Emergency Management Agency, and local divers on Monday.
Kafindangi said, “Based on investigation, 24 persons were involved in the incident but 19 of them have been rescued.”
”One dead body was recovered on Sunday and yesterday we recovered additional three, bringing the number of deaths to four.”
“One person is still missing but search and rescue is still ongoing.”
He further thanked state and local governments, and members of the community for their support so far toward success of rescue operations.
