Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have commenced a meeting in Abuja.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting comes days after ASUU issued Federal Government a 21-day notice of its plan to embark on a nationwide strike over the latter’s failure to meet its demands.
Subsequently, Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman hinted last Friday, during a briefing to mark his one year in office that the government would meet with representatives of ASUU last Monday.
The union and government however could not meet again on Monday, though reasons for the meeting shift were not stated.
The meeting which aims at preventing another nationwide strike in the nation’s public universities is holding at Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Present at the meeting are Representatives of ASUU led by its president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, Minister of Education and top management staff of Federal Ministry of Education, and former past presidents of ASUU, led by immediate past president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi.
