National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has acknowledged an article titled “Investigation: Milk or Mimic: Nigeria’s Dairy Market, a Hub for Inferior EU Products.” published by Premium Times.

Gatekeepers News reports that NAFDAC made this acknowledgment through a statement released by the Director-General of the agency, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye on Sunday.

The agency clarified that Milk and Dairy Products Regulations, 2021, clearly define and recognise various milk products, including whole milk powder, skimmed milk powder, and filled milk-a blend of skimmed milk and vegetable fat.

According to the statement; Codex Alimentarius Commission, an international body that sets food standards, includes a standard for a blend of skimmed milk and vegetable fat in powdered form, known as filled milk, which is recognised and regulated under the Milk and Dairy Products Regulations, 2021.

NAFDAC assured the public that all dairy products registered for use in Nigeria undergo thorough regulatory diligence to safeguard public health.

The agency reiterated its commitment to its mandate of ensuring the safety and quality of food products in Nigeria and will continue to regulate with the best interest of the public at heart.
