Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the trafficking of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 16.
Gatekeepers News reports that the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Tochukwu Ikenga revealed this during a press briefing in Awka.
Ikenga noted that the suspect had trafficked numerous teenagers to neighbouring countries, adding that some of the victims taken to Ghana have been safely returned to Nigeria.
The PRO further said that a search is ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
He said that the suspect was apprehended following reports of increasing cases of missing teenagers in the state.
Ikenga revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam has directed police personnel in the state to take all necessary actions to address the issue.
He added, “The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation with the police. This will assist in rescuing other victims and tracking down additional gang members.”
