Massive train disruptions on Saturday left hundreds of passengers stranded in Germany.
Gatekeepers News reports that some traffic was able to resume as authorities worked to restore the traffic which was due to a technical malfunction. Some traffic has since resumed.
According to German rail company, Deutsche Bahn; services in central Germany were greatly disrupted due to a technical fault.
Public broadcaster, ARD’s news service Tagesschau reported that widespread train cancellations occurred in the greater Frankfurt area due to a radio communications failure, public
Tagesschau revealed that trains traveling to or departing from Frankfurt were affected, and traffic through the major travel and financial hub was on hold.
Large numbers of passengers were stranded at Frankfurt’s Central Station with no idea of when they could resume their journeys.
One of the biggest transport associations in Germany, Rhine/Main Regional Transport Association, or RMV announced through a post on social media that due to a technical fault in radio communications, “train services in the RMV area have been suspended until further notice”, noting that neither S-Bahn trains nor regional trains could run.
It added, “The duration of the disruption cannot currently be foreseen.”
The cause of the technical fault is still unknown.
Deutsche Bahn later announced the technical problem had been resolved.
It said, “Rail traffic in central Germany is starting up again. There may be disruptions until the end of the day.”
