Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) deported 61 foreign nationals in August 2024 as part of its efforts to address the issue of irregular migration in the country.
Gatekeepers News reports that this is according to a report by the service detailing its achievements for the month.
The report stated, “The NIS eased out 61 foreign nationals to address irregular migration. The new Visa Policy facilitated 8,352 Visas on Arrival.”
This is not the first time the immigration service has deported foreign nationals from the country. Between 2020 and 2022, no fewer than 70 foreign nationals were deported.
The deportation of the foreign nationals is part of the NIS’s efforts to curb irregular migration and ensure that only those who meet the necessary requirements are allowed to stay in the country.
The new visa policy has also facilitated the issuance of Visas on Arrival for travellers, with 8,352 visas issued in August alone.
