A man aged fifty-five (55), Sulain Potiskum, on Saturday, drowned in a river in Hadejia Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State.
Gatekeepers News reports that spokesman for Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command, Badaruddeen Tijjani confirmed the incident through a statement released on Sunday in Dutse, the state capital.
Tijjani revealed that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 9:45 a.m. when the deceased attempted to take his bath along the river bank.
He said, “One Sulaiman Potiskum aged 55, lost his life in a river located at Gada, Bakin Kogi area of Hadejia.”
“The tragic incident occurred when the deceased attempted to take his bath along the river bank, but was overwhelmed by the wave.”
The spokesman noted that the Corps’ search team and local divers rescued the man, but he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel at Hadejia General Hospital.
Tijani added that the remains of the deceased had since been handed over to his family for burial.
He urged the state residents to desist from swimming or fishing in rivers with the rising volume of water occasioned by heavy rainfall.
