Former President Muhammadu Buhari had condoled with victims of flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno, saying it was a national calamity.

Gatekeepers News reports that the flood which occurred on Tuesday morning displaced many residents in Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin areas of Maiduguri.

The incident was due to the collapse of the Alau dam, which has been at full capacity for the past few weeks.

Buhari commiserated with the victims of the disaster through a statement released by Spokesman to the former president, Garma Shehu on Tuesday.

The former President said that the relief measures put in place by various governments will provide comfort to the affected persons.

The statement goes, “Former President Muhammadu Buhari sends commiserations to the government and people of Borno and other affected states, following severe floods caused by incessant downpours.”

“Describing it as a national calamity, the former president said he had heard of the widespread devastation of homes and farmland and the loss of life in Borno and several other states of the federation.”

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this natural disaster.”
