Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has begun distributing 1,000 conversion kits across various states to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
Gatekeepers News reports that at a press conference in Abuja, Programme Director Michael Oluwagbemi explained that the initiative aims to reduce transportation costs.
“This move will bring down transportation costs, and we’re projecting over 100,000 direct jobs within the next three years,” Oluwagbemi said.
“We’re targeting the conversion of about three million vehicles within the same period.”
Oluwagbemi revealed that commercial transport operators will receive free conversions to minimize the impact of the fuel subsidy removal. “By bringing down the cost of transportation, we’re making life easier for Nigerians,” he added.
Moses Onate, Warehouse Manager of the PiCN facility, said the distribution is being carried out on a “First Come First Serve” basis.
“We’ve already given out 450 conversion kits to states, with an additional 550 awaiting distribution,” Onate said.
Onate emphasised the need for Nigerians to embrace the initiative, highlighting its potential to significantly reduce fuel costs.
“Compressed natural gas is a cleaner and more affordable alternative to petrol,” he noted.
The conversion kits enable vehicles to run on compressed natural gas, providing a cost-effective solution for transportation.
