Cholera Outbreak: UNICEF Donates Hygiene Kits To Jigawa Flood Victims

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has donated 1,250 cartons of cholera prevention and hygiene dignity kits to flood victims in Jigawa State.

Gatekeepers News reports that Deputy Director of Planning at Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Malam Kamaladdin Ahmad revealed this while distributing the materials at Tsakuwawa village in the Miga local government area (LGA).

Ahmad said, “UNICEF has supported the Jigawa State government with cholera prevention and sanitation kits, which are being distributed to the victims of the flood disaster in the state.”

The deputy director explained that the kits are to be distributed only to flood victims in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

He said, “The kits are only for the victims living in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across the state. Those squatting with relatives, those who have returned home, and those living outside IDP camps will not benefit from this gesture.”

Ahmad noted that UNICEF presented 750 cartons of cholera prevention kits and 500 hygiene dignity kits to RUWASSA for distribution to the targeted beneficiaries.

He added, “As you can see, we have already started distributing the items to the victims. We are visiting IDP camps to deliver them.”

“Based on the records from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), there are IDP camps in 18 local government areas. We have their locations, and we will meet them.”

“This is the seventh local government area we’ve visited. We have already been to Auyo, Buji, Kiyawa, Kafin Hausa, Gagarawa, and Jahun, and we are now in Miga local government area.”

Ahmad highlighted each kit to contains soap, women’s sanitary pads, water treatment materials, and other household sanitation items for environmental and personal hygiene.
