President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for a peaceful and respectful electoral process towards the governorship election coming up on September 21, 2024, in Edo state.
Gatekeepers News reports that Tinubu in a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, urged all stakeholders including candidates, political parties, and supporters to honour the democratic process and will of the electorate.
Emphasising on importance of informed decision-making by voters, the president said, “Democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game.”
Tinubu applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to ensuring a free and fair election and called on all parties to collaborate for a successful process.
The President lauded the candidates’ campaigns for their focus on pressing issues such as economic growth and improving citizens’ livelihoods.
He urged residents to maintain peace and respect during the voting process, adding that disputes should be settled through proper channels.
Tinubu expressed confidence in the integrity and professionalism of security agencies and INEC officials.
He added, “I urge them to remain impartial and avoid actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.”
