Why We Rearrested Bobrisky – EFCC

Bobrisky Finally Departs Nigeria After Two Failed Attempts
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the rearrest of Bobrisky, a prominent crossdresser and self-proclaimed transgender.

Gatekeepers News reports that on Thursday night, Bobrisky was preparing to leave the country when airport officials intervened and removed him from an airplane.

Following his arrest, Bobrisky took to Instagram to seek assistance, alleging that he was detained by the EFCC and sustained injuries, sharing a video that showed his wounded arm.

On Friday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale informed TheCable Lifestyle that Bobrisky was taken into custody to aid in the investigation of bribery allegations against the agency.

“Yes. It is true. He is in our custody. He made an allegation against our officers. And we have asked him to come and assist our investigators in the case. And he has refused to come. The House of representatives invited him, but he refused to come,” Oyewale said.

“Are we going to continue to watch him with that kind of grievous allegations he made against us? It is just for him to come and establish the basis and write a statement to that effect and he will be released. He who alleges must prove. He is in our custody. We arrested him last night.”

This incident follows his previous apprehension about two weeks ago at the Seme border, where he was allegedly trying to flee the country. After this initial arrest, he was transferred to the Lagos FCID in Alagbon for further investigation.

Details surrounding Bobrisky’s previous release from detention, including any bail arrangements, remain unclear. Both Bobrisky and the EFCC, along with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), are currently under scrutiny by a House of Representatives committee concerning allegations of bribery.

The situation escalated when activist VeryDarkMan shared an audio recording in which Bobrisky purportedly claimed to have paid N15 million to EFCC officials to have money laundering charges dismissed.

In the recording, he also alleged that his six-month jail term was served in an apartment rather than in Kirikiri prison, attributing this to the influence of a “godfather.” Bobrisky later denounced the recording as “fake” and threatened legal action against VeryDarkMan for defamation.

An investigative panel has since found no evidence supporting Bobrisky’s claims that he was not incarcerated during his six-month sentence.

The EFCC had initially arrested Bobrisky in April on charges related to currency abuse, resulting in a six-month prison sentence for that offence.
