Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful restoration of power through the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330 kilovolt (kV) transmission line.
Gatekeepers News reports that on October 30, power was restored on the Gombe-Damaturu line around 7:25 PM, followed by the restoration on the Damaturu-Maiduguri (Molai) segment at approximately 2:01 PM the next day.
This restoration comes after a significant disruption on September 22, when tower 372 along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri transmission line was destroyed by vandals. The act of vandalism resulted in the cutting of all four tower footings, leading to the collapse of the tower. This incident severely impacted the power supply to Damaturu in Yobe State, extending to Maiduguri in Borno State.
According to TCN, the damaged tower has been rebuilt, and the re-stringing of the line was completed on October 23.
“Recall that tower 372, along the 330kV transmission line, was vandalised on 22 September 2024. The vandalised tower was rebuilt, and stringing of the line was completed on 23 October 2024, at about 12:48 pm,” Mbah said.
“TCN was, however, unable to immediately restore bulk power supply through the line due to the vandalism of the Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line. Power supply has, however, been fully restored along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line.”
TCN has emphasised the importance of public involvement in safeguarding power installations and has urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to security agencies or TCN offices.
On October 22, TCN reported a power outage affecting the north-east, north-west, and parts of the north-central regions after both 330kV Ugwaji–Apir double circuit transmission lines experienced a trip.
There was also a report of vandalism on the Shiro ro-Kaduna line, which has led to a reduction in electricity supply to major cities, including Kaduna and Kano.
TCN confirmed that power supply has been successfully restored to seven northern states via its 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line.
