Federal High Court in Abuja has denied the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the opportunity to arraign Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, due to the absence of his legal representatives.
Gatekeepers News reports that the EFCC, on Friday, brought Bello to court on allegations of fraud amounting to N80 billion.
During the court proceedings, presiding judge Emeka Nwite inquired about the absence of Bello’s lawyers. In response, Bello explained that he had only been informed of the court session late on Thursday night, which did not allow him sufficient time to contact his legal team.
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, the EFCC had already arraigned Bello at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on a separate 16-count charge related to alleged money laundering involving N110 billion.
