INEC Recognises Ezeokenwa As APGA National Chairman After Supreme Court Ruling INEC Recognises Ezeokenwa As APGA National Chairman After Supreme Court Ruling
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the legitimate national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Gatekeepers News reports that this recognition follows a ruling by the Supreme Court in November, which affirmed Ezeokenwa’s position as APGA’s national chairman.

A five-member panel, led by Justice Stephen Adah, unanimously determined that Edozie Njoku was incorrect in his claims to the title of APGA national chairman.

Since 2023, Ezeokenwa and Njoku have been engaged in a significant leadership dispute, resulting in numerous legal challenges. Justice Adah clarified that a previous ruling related to the appeal marked SC/CV/687/2021, issued on October 14, 2021, and subsequently corrected on March 24, 2024, did not grant any enforceable rights to Njoku.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Sam Olumekun, INEC’s national commissioner and chair of the information and voter education committee, indicated that the commission convened to address and discuss the leadership matters concerning APGA.

“The commission has been served with the judgement of the Supreme Court with Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS, delivered on 27th November 2024, recognising Barr. Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the party,” the statement reads.

“In compliance with the judgement of the apex court, the Commission has restored Barr. Ezeokenwa as the chairman of APGA and restored his name on our website accordingly.”
