During an event organised by the Nigeria Bar Association in Abuja, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, condemned the illegal dissolution of local government administrations by state governors, labelling it as a treasonable offence.
Gatekeepers News reports that Fagbemi, represented by Tijani Gazali, the Director of Civil Appeals in the ministry, emphasised that despite the Supreme Court’s judgments and constitutional provisions designed to protect local government councils from state interference, certain governors and their state assemblies continue to dissolve elected local councils unlawfully.
He criticised state Attorneys General and Commissioners for Justice for failing to provide proper legal guidance to their governors and advocated for stringent penalties against those who persist in such illegal actions.
