Ebonyi State Police command has arrested inspector Ikechukwu Obaji for assaulting and intimidating people with guns on the roads in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Gatekeepers News reports that Inspector Obaji who is also a tricycle operator was seen in a viral video harassing his passengers with a gun he carries around while operating with Keke.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Joshua Ukandu in a statement said that the officer had been arrested while the command had initiated disciplinary actions against the officer.
Ukandu said, “The Command is aware of a video circulating on social media involving a police officer driving a tricycle in an altercation with his passengers, during which he allegedly brandished his rifle.”
“The Command strongly condemns the officer’s actions as they violate the ethics and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Nigeria Police Force.”
“The officer involved has been identified, and an investigation is underway. Disciplinary actions have already been initiated against him.”
“The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya, assures residents of Ebonyi State that the Command has zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct from its officers and they will be held accountable for their actions.”
