Kelvin Izekor, a resident of Benin City in Edo State, has been taken into custody by local police following the alleged murder of his 38-year-old wife, Success Izekor.

Gatekeepers Newreports thathe incident occurred on February 22, 2025, at their home in Upper Mission Extension, Benin City.

According to eyewitness accounts, Kelvin reportedly struck Success on the head with a cutlass, causing severe injuries that led to her death. The couple, who married in June 2024, had been the subject of previous reports indicating instances of domestic abuse witnessed by neighbors.

Moses Yamu, the Edo State police public relations officer, confirmed the incident and the resulting death of Success in a statement.

Yamu further noted that an angry mob attempted to lynch Kelvin, but police intervened to ensure his safety. Subsequently, Kelvin has been formally charged in court and is currently held in prison awaiting further legal proceedings.

“On 22/02/2025 at about 2200hrs, information was received that one Kelvin Izekor of no 50 Upper Mission extension, Benin-City has killed his wife named Success Izekor aged 38yrs and was about to be lynched by an irate mob,” the statement reads.

“Operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded to the report and met the lifeless body of the woman lying in the pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head.

”It took serious efforts by the Police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation. The victim was removed and rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

“The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, psc,mnips, decried the recent cases of spouses being violent against each other while assuring the public of diligent investigation into the death of the woman and whoever found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.”
