NiMet Warns Of Severe Heat Stress In Over 10 States
Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning regarding severe heat stress expected in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Gatekeepers News reports that NiMet, in its weather outlook released on Monday, highlighted that rising temperatures combined with high humidity levels over the next three to four days may lead to thermal discomfort in various regions of Nigeria.

The states that are anticipated to be most affected include Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Cross River. In addition, other areas identified as vulnerable encompass Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Sokoto.

NiMet has urged the public to be aware of possible health risks associated with extreme heat, such as fatigue, irritability, diminished focus and motor skills, and decreased productivity.

To mitigate these effects, the agency recommends that individuals remain in well-ventilated spaces, wear breathable clothing, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, avoid outdoor activities during peak sun hours between 12 PM and 3 PM, and utilize sun protection.
