ICYMI: Japan Becomes First Country To Qualify For 2026 Men’s World Cup

Japan has become the first country to qualify for the 2026 Men’s World Cup, defeating Bahrain 2-0 at Saitama Stadium on Thursday.

Gatekeepers Newreports that second-half goals from Daichi Kamada and Takefusa Kubo secured Japan’s spot in the tournament, which will be hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu praised his team’s efforts, saying, “Thanks to the players for their efforts and the fans for their support… We knew that if we persevered, the goals would come”.

The win maintains Japan’s unbeaten 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, with 19 points from seven games.

This marks Japan’s eighth consecutive World Cup appearance.
