Federal Government has announced plans to pay the backlog of the new ₦77,000 monthly allowance to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), after several months of delay.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, assured that the payment will be made, although it may not be immediate.

The allowance was increased from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 in September 2024, but its implementation has been delayed due to budgetary issues.

“The backlog, we will work on it and make sure it is paid. It may not be immediate but it will happen,’ he assured when featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The delay has caused frustration among corps members, who have been receiving the old allowance of ₦33,000 despite the announced increase.

However, with the budgetary allocation now in place, the government has assured that the payment will commence.
