A heated argument erupted between Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi North, and former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili at a senate committee hearing on Tuesday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the confrontation occurred during the hearing of the senate committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions, where Ezekwesili was supporting petitioner Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, alongside her counsel Abiola Akiode and petitioner Zubairu Yakubu.
When Yakubu attempted to speak out of turn, he was asked to mute his microphone. Ezekwesili intervened, only to be interrupted by Nwaebonyi, who was testifying on behalf of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Ezekwesili told Nwaebonyi to “compose himself and stop making noise,” which sparked a fiery response from the senator. “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here,” Nwaebonyi retorted.
Ezekwesili shot back, labeling Nwaebonyi a “hooligan,” further infuriating the lawmaker. The exchange disrupted the session until order was restored.
Following the incident, committee chairman Neda Imaseun announced that the case was now before a court of law, bringing the hearing to an abrupt end.
