Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, has issued an apology to Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, following a heated exchange with Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, the senator for Ebonyi North.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred during a hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, which was convened to discuss a new petition filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Akpabio of s3xual harassment. Ezekwesili attended the committee hearing alongside Abiola Akiode, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal counsel, and the petitioner, Zubairu Yakubu, acting as witnesses.

During the proceedings, Nwaebonyi, who serves as the deputy chief whip of the Senate and was present as a witness for Akpabio, frequently interrupted Ezekwesili’s statements.

In response, Ezekwesili urged Nwaebonyi to “compose himself and stop making noise,” and asked him to “please, will you shut up?” This remark sparked a significant reaction from Nwaebonyi.

“You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here,” Nwaebonyi told Ezekwesili.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is currently facing a recall process initiated by some of her constituents, took to X to commend Ezekwesili.

“Ma’am, I apologise for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership,” she wrote.

“Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education and democracy continues to inspire generations.

“A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience and selfless service. You are a hero.”
