Fire has razed Kalari settlement in Konduga Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno state.
Gatekeepers News reports that Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, revealed that the fire, which started at about 1pm on Sunday, engulfed three villages, destroying more than 1,500 thatched houses.
Makama added that the fire claimed three lives and displaced over 3,000 people.
The military and combined joint task force (CJTF) were mobilised to provide emergency assistance.
Personnel from 222 Battalion rendered first aid to those wounded and transported the
injured ones to Maiduguri Specialist Hospital through army ambulances.
Local officials, including the chairman of Konduga LGA, a member of the House of Assembly, and the commissioner for environment, also ensured immediate relief efforts for the affected families.
A State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) official confirmed that the Borno State government has issued an urgent appeal for humanitarian aid to support those displaced by the fire, as well as victims of previous disasters.
The official saif efforts are underway to provide shelter, food, and medical care to those affected by the incident.
