George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has launched a Performance Management System (PMS) designed to enhance service delivery within the government.
Gatekeepers News reports that this initiative, introduced on Wednesday, aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025 (FCSSIP).
The PMS will be managed within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and is intended to foster transparency and accountability in public service. Akume emphasized that the system aims to ensure that individuals are accountable for their respective roles by establishing clear expectations and monitoring performance through specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
“PMS is a system that will ensure that civil servants understand their roles and perform effectively and maximally within clearly defined measurable metrics that will lead them to achieve set targets and goals,” Akume said.
Nnamdi Mbaeri, the permanent secretary of the general services office, commended Akume for his support of the PMS initiative.
The permanent secretary pledged the commitment of the OSGF toward ensuring the full implementation of the initiative.
Anthony Obioha, director of human resources in the OSGF, described the inauguration of the PMS as a call to action for every department, unit, and staff member to take ownership of the system and ensure its full implementation.
He noted that the PMS is designed to foster a culture where performance is monitored, feedback is timely, continuous development is encouraged, and excellence is acknowledged and rewarded.
The inauguration climaxed in the signing of a performance bond between the five permanent secretaries in the OSGF.
The SGF is expected to cascade the agreement down to directors in the respective departments to ensure full compliance.
