Five people were on Friday, injured in an explosion inside a closed-circuit television
(CCTV) camera shop in Computer Village axis of Ikeja, Lagos state.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victims who sustained varying degrees of injury, were taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesman, said the scene has been cordoned off by operatives of the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit.
Hundeyin noted that the command is investigating the incident to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
He said, “The scene was swept by the EOD experts of command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” the Lagos police spokesperson.”
The spokesman noted that Commissioner of Police (CP) of the Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion for an on-the-spot assessment.
The CP assured Lagos residents that the police are fully managing the situation and urged the public to remain calm.
Hundeyin added,” While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and other factors that might have caused the incident, the general public are enjoined to go about their lawful engagements and businesses peacefully without fear or apprehension, as the scene of the explosion and the adjoining area have been rendered safe and secured.”
