Pope Francis Greets Worshippers At Easter

Pope Francis made an appearance at St Peter’s Square in Vatican to deliver his Easter message to worshippers.

Gatekeepers News reports that Francis, who arrived in a wheelchair, waved to the crowd from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica and said, “Dear brothers and sisters, Happy Easter.”

While a clergy member delivered the traditional Easter message on his behalf, the Pope remained present, looking visibly frail but attentive throughout.

After the blessing, he was driven around the square in the popemobile, pausing several times to bless babies presented by worshippers.

Recall that some weeks ago, Pope Francis was discharged from hospital following a five-week stay to treat a serious infection that developed into double pneumonia. His doctors had advised two months of rest due to the severity of his condition.

Delivering his Easter message, the Pope emphasised the importance of fundamental freedoms including freedom of religion, thought, and expression as essentials for peace.

Francis lamented the ongoing global conflicts, saying, “What a great thirst for death we witness in the many wars ravaging the world.

The Pope expressed deep concern for the people of Gaza, in particular its Christian population, saying the conflict causes death and destruction and creates a deplorable humanitarian situation.

Francis condemned the growing global antisemitism and urged for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and humanitarian support for the victims.

He said, “I express my closeness to the sufferings… for all the Israeli people and the Palestinian people.”

“Call a ceasefire, release the hostages, and come to the aid of a starving people that aspires to a future of peace.”

The Pope also called on all parties involved in Ukraine war to strive for a just and lasting peace.
